The mind is the mothership of orders and when the body complies miracles happen. The power of the mind is so intriguing that it even speeds up the healing process, and the reason for that is that our body adapts and complies with the brain when it gives an order.
When performing a voluntary movement, the brain first has to command that movement to happen. Every voluntary movement starts with the brain. That signal or order is then passed down to the spinal cord, then the spinal cord takes that order and recruits the nerves that should be involved in that particular movement. The nerves then send those signals to the fascia, and finally the fascia envelopes the muscles, telling them to contract or stretch to perform that particular movement.
Let me put that into context for you. You see a person a couple of meters away from you and you know when you get into arms’ distance you are going to shake that person’s hand. The brain has already compiled a list of demands waiting to be distributed. Once you have reached arm’s length, the brain sends those signals out to the spinal cord. The brain basically says, now we are going to shake that person’s hand, so do what you must to make that happen.
As simple as that may sound the process is extremely complex.
Once that signal has reached the spinal cord, the spinal cord then tells the nerves that are going to be involved in making that hand shake happen to distribute these orders that are coming from up top. The nerves then send those signals in a hyper-speed fashion down to the fascia, which plays a huge role in this, because our fascia connects all of our muscles, and it is the main factor in allowing complex movements to happen.
Finally, the signal reaches the muscles that are involved in that voluntary movement to happen, and we have reached the final destination. The body is so complexly wired that it can allow you to perform that movement and maintain a smile and a conversation all at the same time. Keep in mind, any wrong signals and that hand shake could very easily turn into a slap. We are basically recruiting the same muscles but at different frequencies.
